Unsere Degustationsnotiz
Wie bei so vielen Pinot Noirs, sieht man auch dem 2017er La Rinconada Pinot Noir seine Kraft und Komplexität nicht an. Er wirkt eher transparent und strahlt in hellem Rubin. Im Duft wird es jedoch bereits vielschichtig mit Noten von Kirschen, Erdbeeren und Himbeeren, Preiselbeeren und Brombeeren. Dazu kommen Saft und Schalen von Blutorangen, Salbei und etwas Thymian, Flieder und Lavendel. Am Gaumen ist das ein Wein voller Grazie und Lebendigkeit in Kombination mit einer faszinierenden Harmonie, Kraft, feinster Textur und Tanninstruktur – wunderbar!

One of the highlights among these 2017s, the Pinot Noir La Rinconada Vineyard is positively stellar. All the best elements of Justin Willett's style come through in the Rinconada, a wine that possesses tremendous fruit richness, vibrancy and exceptional overall balance. The 33% whole clusters are nicely integrated in the wine's fabric. Sweet red/purplish berry fruit, lavender, sage and blood are front and center, but more than anything else, the Rinconada stands out for its superb sense of poise. I loved it.

The next-door neighbour of the famed Sanford & Benedict Vineyard, La Rinconada strikes a pleasing balance between muscular power and a deft touch. This 2017 bottling comes from the upper portion of the site, and is at once brooding and floral on the nose. The palate is punchy and forward, with notes of black cherries and hard red candy. The finish has svelte texture, with a pretty but chewy, fine-grained tannin structure that's a signature of Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir.

Pale to medium ruby-purple, the 2017 Pinot Noir La Rinconada Vineyard has a wonderful perfume of tricolored berries—blueberry, cranberry, raspberry, strawberry and blackberries—with nuances of orange oil, gravel dust, sagebrush and lilac. The light to medium-bodied palate gives up tons of floral and amaro accents knit by grainy tannins and seamless acidity and finishing very long and perfumed. 68 cases were made.

Vinifikation
La Rinconada wurde von Richard Sanford ab 1997 in den Santa Rita Hills gepflanzt. Der Weinberg grenzt direkt westlich an den berühmten Sanford & Benedict Vineyard an. Der Pinot steht im oberen, windigen und kühlen Teil mit einem steinigen Boden auf dem kaum Erde zu finden ist. Vergoren wurde spontan im grossen Holz mit rund 33 % Rappen. Ausgebaut wurde der Pinot für 14 Monate im Barrique und danach ungeschönt und unfiltriert gefüllt.
