Unsere Degustationsnotiz
Der Syrah präsentiert sich in tiefem Rubinrot im Glas. In der Nase entfaltet er ein betörendes Bouquet von reifen Brombeeren, schwarzen Kirschen und Gewürznoten, begleitet von dezenten Anklängen an schwarzen Pfeffer und Vanille. Am Gaumen beeindruckt er mit einer beeindruckenden Konzentration und seidigen Tanninen. Die fruchtigen Aromen setzen sich fort und werden von subtilen Nuancen von Schokolade und Tabak begleitet. Ein langer, eleganter Abgang rundet das Geschmackserlebnis harmonisch ab.

Der ‚AVA‘-Syrah ist zweifellos ein Glanzstück aus Donovan Ralls Weinkeller. Er zeigt eindrucksvoll, warum Rall zu den aufstrebenden Weinmachern Südafrikas gehört. Mit seiner handwerklichen Herangehensweise und seinem Engagement für Qualität hat er einen Wein geschaffen, der durch seine Intensität und Eleganz gleichermaßen besticht.

Softly herbal and with a dusty black peppercorn essence, the 2022 AVA Syrah displays seductive, sanguine notes of hung sausage before black tea and spicy plum skin appear with wild, savory aromas. Still amazingly tight, the Syrah will need a few more years in the bottle but displays fine-grained tannins that will allow this beautiful Syrah to age gracefully for years. If you can find it, buy the entire case!

The 2022 Syrah Ava is 100% whole bunch fermented and aged in a 3,000 liter foudres and neutral oak. It has a little more reduction than the Rall Syrah, perhaps due to the aging vessel, but there is plenty of pure black, Provençal-tinged fruit here. The palate is medium-bodied with great structure and density, quite saline, with a touch of licorice and menthol on the finish, as if there was a splash of Mourvèdre in the blend (there isn't, BTW). Enormous length, this is a serious Swartland Rhône blend. Outstanding.

What a nose - so much white pepper, fresh plum, chili chocolate, Sichuan peppercorn and shiso leaf. Crunchy and peppery on the palate with both volume and finesse, a medium body, and very fine tannins. Wild and peppery. Whole bunch fermented.

Vinifikation
Die Trauben wurden von Hand geerntet, um die Qualität zu gewährleisten. Nach der Entrappung und schonenden Pressung wurden die Trauben in Edelstahltanks fermentiert. Der Wein reifte anschliessend in französischen Eichenfässern, um komplexe Aromen und eine geschmeidige Textur zu entwickeln. Donovan Rall setzt auf traditionelle Techniken und minimalen Eingriff, um das Terroir und den Charakter des Syrah bestmöglich zur Geltung zu bringen.
