Tempranillo, lambrusco, shiraz, lagrein. Ricca Terra craft wines that feel quite alive in the glass, perhaps due to their deep agricultural understanding and farming practices. I could be romanticising, but this wine is a living thing. Soft leather, aniseed rings, fresh fig and dry earth. Dark chocolate and blood plum. The tannins have a lateral extension within, beyond the spine of the drink, leaf vein-like. For its close-to-earth rusticity, it certainly polishes up and carries an elegant composition further endorsed by impeccable balance.

Das Weingut der Kay Brothers steht für traditionelle Weinbereitung im McLaren Vale. Dafür nutzen die Kays nicht nur teils uralte Reben, sondern auch eine knapp 100 Jahre alte Presse, denn keine erzeugt besseren Saft als diese. Ein Grund, warum dieser Grenache 94 Parker-Punkte erhält.

The 2022 Basket Pressed Grenache leads with garden roses, raspberry seed, cherry and strawberry. The sweet, floral fruit is backed by fine exotic spice—white pepper, star anise, etc. In the mouth, the wine leads with a purple- and pink-fruited attack that is supported by a skein of sandy, gently grippy tannins. I like the smooth, flowing shape of this wine. Balance and harmony between flavor and texture is rife. This is ripe, and good for it. The fruit is from Olivers Piggery Block, and it was handpicked, destemmed, fermented in open-top fermenters, pressed to tank and matured in seasoned five-year-old French puncheons. It feels lighter, brighter and redder than the 2021, and I love it for that.

A consistently poised, eminently drinkable and absolutely delicious Vale grenache. At this price, a steal. Ripe strawberry and red berry accents coat the taut palate, complemented beautifully by sandy, almost gritty tannins toward the finish. A thirst-slaking expression best on the cooler side, and yet, despite its drinkability, there is considerable pedigree and detail.

Ein Traum mit deutlicher Cassis- und Minz-Aromatik, ein Wein von grosser Tiefe und eleganten Taninnen – Julian Langworthy ist ganz ohne Zweifel ein „Cabernet-Flüsterer“, der schon viele grossartige und einige der besten australischen Weine dieser Rebsorte erzeugt hat.

A classy cabernet with all manner of heady aromas and flavours. Expect a combo of mulberries, blackberries and currants, freshly ground coffee beans and iodine plus lots of menthol. There are more savoury inputs of nori and tapenade with cedary oak just-so. Fuller-bodied yet beautifully modulated with exceptional tannins.

Aromas of blackcurrants, black olives, graphite, bell peppers, potpourri and orange peel on the nose. The palate is full-bodied with firmly integrated tannins and bright acidity, giving notes of blood plums, mocha, tobacco leaves and graphite.
